Before you, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars - points of light and reason. And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn't see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything.

We alighted the bus hurriedly and waited for the connecting bus.

It wasn't like before anymore.
It was pitch dark. There was no light.
I could hardly figure out what's around me.
The only lights were from our handphones and Skwikenvices.

Till our eyes were adjusted to the darkness did we make out the silhouette of the towering trees behind the bus stop.
What lay in front still could not be seen.

A gust of wind sent the leaves.
Why isn't the bus here yet?
They are catching up soon.

Then the heart skipped two beats, followed by rapid thumping.

Somebody.. No. Something was watching.
Something amongst the trees.....was watching us.
You grabbed me hard on the arm.
I tried hard not to express fear lest you feel insecure.

It was coming.
I knew the weapons on me could do nothing.
The bus wasn't here yet.
I'm at my wits' end.

I told you to pray to God.
You released your grip on me and prayed.

It was then I realised
you weren't there at all.

The cold metal barrel against my temple was reassuring.
Pull the trigger.
